Good Morning Sassy Savers!

I had one of the best weekends with some amazing girls at a lake house. Literally, I don't ever remember taking time out for an extended amount of time. It was just what all 6 of us needed. We had so much fun!

As we were talking the one thing that kept coming up was eating out vs. cooking and eating at home. 3 of us cook and the other 3 eat out most of the time. It was fun to talk about tips and tricks to make cooking at home faster, more efficient and healthier for our families. The reason why I cook is to keep my budget where it needs to be. Eating out is the #1 budget buster (pretty sure I've mentioned that at least 100 times on this blog;)

Today is Monday and the perfect time to take a few minutes to plan out a menu for the week. I promise, it is not too difficult or time consuming. Go through your freezer, fridge and pantry and start writing down different meals you can make. It really is that simple!

I encourage you to make time to spend with friends and people who lift you up. A little time away will give you peace and grant you more patience for your family.

Happy Monday!

Howdy Sassy Savers!

How is your week going? Mine has been busy, yet again. My daughter has a Science Fair this week, plus JBF Plano and fundraising for our NY Mission Trip. All that combined will wear a sister out! Sadly, when I get super busy and tired I can't sleep. Such a bummer! Oh well, there will be time to sleep later in life (I'm told). Ha!

Aside from the craziness of life, I've been setting some hefty personal goals. I'm always inspired by other people, so I thought I would share in hopes of inspiring you today. The goal is to get rid of at least 10 items from your house per day. You can trash them, donate them or sell them. Believe it or not, this is very easy to do!

*Clean/Organize
I've found that if my house is not organized, neither is my life! Don't feel like I've ever really gotten ahold of the clutter. Seriously. This is a revolving resolution and a revolving FAILURE. Do you know how annoying it is to set the same goal every single year? Well, I'm guessing the answer to that was YES!
My point here is that I decided to break it down into to small tiny chunks each day. Can I just say this approach is working for me?!

Here is a list of things I've tackled:
*Sewing Room
This was a huge undertaking! I have too much stuff and not enough room. At least it looks better now and I can actually leave the door open.

*Office
This room never looked too bad, but the papers on the desk were a bit out of control! I had to get rid of several things and make a bookshelf more functional than fun. The results are great! I'm amazed at how happy a clean and organized work space makes us!

*Kitchen
This is always a work in progress! I've reorganized my pantry, utensil drawer and counter top space (you know that corner that collects junk mail?). This is a daily struggle to stay on top of it. Hanging in there ;)

*Master bedroom
Cleared out some stuff and tackled the closet. Whew! The master closet might just be my favorite part of this house due to the size. I color coded it and that made a HUGE difference! So much better. Honestly, I feel like I have new clothes now. I encourage everyone to do this! Clothing looks different and more appealing when it is organized.

*Guest Bedroom
Removed 2 pieces of furniture so that it didn't appear any smaller. Liking the look of a larger room now for our guests.

*Play Room
This is still not cleared out, but has made some progress. We got rid of a couple of items and that has given my daughter more room to play. It is very hard to get rid of anything as she is sentimental about EVERYTHING (like her momma).

*Garage
Spent hours organizing a section of this. I'm happy with the progress, but am a long way away from where I would like it. Baby steps.

Why have I done all of this? I'm attempting to be set free from a life of stuff! I'm so tired of meaningless stuff cluttering my life. Do you feel this way? I want to live with simplicity in my home, not chaos.

It is sort of a funny feeling that I have in the pit of my stomach. I believe God is gently preparing me for what is to come. We know that our lives will be forever changed by this mission trip. The idea of it all is just so exciting!

I'm now ending this long post.

Happy Wednesday!

~Saving Money Without Coupons!~

I get so many questions as to how I "coupon". People want to know exactly how I'm doing it since all the coupon policies changed at my favorite store. Well, the answer is that I'm not very much! I use coupons when there is a sale and something I'm buying has a coupon. I always try to use coupons for toiletry items. If there is not a coupon, I try to only buy items at their rock bottom prices.

Plus, I've been trying an Aldi experiment over the past couple of months. They have such great everyday deals! We've been trying to not eat much processed foods, so getting deals on fruits, veggies & fish is a big deal.

We went to Aldi this weekend. Listed below are a few of the deals. No coupons, just everyday low prices.

Veggie Chips-$1.69
Tilapia (bag)-$4.49
Sweet Potato Chips-$1.99
Wild Caught Salmon (bag)-$4.49
Fiber cereal-$1.29
Apples (3 lb bag)- $2.47
Mushrooms-$1.69
Granola/Oat bars (box)-$1.49
Milk-$2.09
Bananas-.42 per lb
Oranges (3 lb bag)-$1.29
Strawberries-.99
Eggs-.99
Cucumbers-.59

As you can see, those are some great prices on quality foods. Anyone can walk in there and get these prices. Sadly, there is not an Aldi close to our house. When we go, we try buy enough for 2 weeks. So far we have liked all of their brands. We were shocked at how good the chips were! Literally, the veggie chips are better than any other that we've tried. Very exciting to get them for a fraction of the price!

Happy Monday!

~Menu Plan Monday!~

Hope everyone had a very blessed Easter weekend! We had fun celebrating babies, birthdays, Easter...basically, celebrating life all weekend. It was a busy, but fun weekend spent with dear friends.

It is Monday, so we should talk about menu planning. I gifted a friend a menu planning pad this weekend. Of course that got me to thinking about my own failures in planning a menu last week. The previous week I did awesome and stuck to it! However, last week was full of events and it just didn't happen. Don't worry...we did eat ;)
I love having a plan. I need to have a plan. I thrive on having a plan in life. Do you feel the same way? There is a peace with a plan.

Happy Menu Planning Sassy Savers!

~Try Natural Fixes First!~

Try all natural approaches first to save money.

My big toenail has suffered trauma twice in the past 5 years. Don't ask...it's really not an exciting story either time, just very painful! Anyway, the past couple of years I've had to keep polish on the nail year round due to how bad it looked. It was discolored, flaky, and looked like it was heading toward fungus. Gross! I didn't want to be a part of the "Fungus Among Us" group!
(Don't worry...there are no before and after pics simply because feet really gross me out and there is just no need for anyone to see my big toe nail. Trust me, it wasn't well.)

I was at the point the other day where I was willing to spend hundreds at the doctor to get something for it. Then my neighbor suggested Tea Tree Oil. Of course, you all know how much I love putting oils on my body. So, I ordered some off eBay!

Everything that I read online said this process was slow and could take up to 12 months! Geez! That is a long time to doctor something twice daily. I decided that I would give it 2 weeks and see if there was any improvement. Well, I'm not even a week into it and my nail is looking 90% better. I'll be shocked if it isn't completely back to a normal, healthy looking nail by the end of the 2 week period!

So, once again the natural remedy works wonders and saved me money! Tea Tree Oil can be used for a great deal of things and is relatively inexpensive. I'm excited to have it now and plan to use it on many things in the future!

Blessed~

~Failure Isn't Forever~

Well, it is a new month already! Happy April Sassy Savers!

How did your budget turn out for March? Mine was pretty good. Hit my savings goal! Woohoo! Feel like I'm back on track now. Sometimes getting momentum going is key to staying on track with saving money.

If you fell off the money saving train, never fear! It is a new month and you can start today! Everyone makes mistakes. The only failure is if you don't try again.
Yesterday our Pastor said something so profound about failure that I had to write it down.
"FAILURE IS AN EVENT, NOT AN INDIVIDUAL!"

Moving onto SUCCESS!!! My hunky hubs ran his first 5k and placed 3rd! You go Baby!

Happy Monday!
