~Setting Goals!~

Today's post is all about setting sales goals for the Just Between Friends Sale!

In the spring I found out that our church was offering a family camp over the summer at The Great Wolf Lodge. We were excited and really wanted to go, however it would be at least $500 that we had not budgeted in our vacation fund. So, I decided that every cent made at the spring sale would go toward camp. God is so good and we were able to have a BLAST at family camp with the money that I made at the sale. That was such an awesome feeling to be able to pay for it with my JBF money!

Do you have a JBF goal? It makes it so much fun each night when you look at your totals if you have a goal set! Plus, it is a huge motivating factor when you are getting items ready for the sale.

~JBF is 1 Month Away!~

Here is a JBF tip that I believe to be crucial:

Prep clothing!

Iron clothes that are full of wrinkles and make sure everything smells good and is ready to wear. After all, this is NOT a garage sale! People expect high quality, nice looking clothing when they shop at a JBF sale. I had some maternity clothing that was very wrinkled and not looking so good. I took the time to wash and iron them to get them ready and they all sold on the first day. I know if I had tried to just sale them, people would have most likely passed them by.

Remember, the Dallas JBF sale is just around the corner. Start getting your items ready now. I've already tagged over 200 items! I'm so excited to get it finished early this year! However, I keep finding stuff to include ;)

~How to Make a Meal For Less Money!~

One of my hunky hubs favorite meals that his mother makes is broccoli & cheese casserole. She gave me the recipe a couple of years ago and he has loved each time that I've made it. I decided to mix it up a bit this time around due to budget cuts. Meaning, the cheese whiz was $3.99 and I typically don't want the entire meal to cost that much! So, I tried a can of Campbell's Fiesta Nacho Cheese Cooking Soup instead. It was actually really good! It did have a kick from the "fiesta" portion of the cheese soup. I was happy that the can was only $1.50 rather than the $3.99.

This is what I used:
fresh broccoli
brown rice (I always cook with brown rice rather than white rice.)
cream of mushroom
cream of chicken
fiesta nacho cheese cooking soup
dried onions (didn't have a real onion)
can of chicken (Don't judge...It was this or a meatless dish and you all know how my hunky hubs feels about that ;)

Layered the rice at the bottom and the soup mixture on top.

The finished product!

Hope this encourages you to use what you already have and to substitute and try something new. You just might like it even better!

We have a hard time keeping up with receipts before they are filed or written down in the budget. I decided to put this cute glass jar by the kitchen phone and anytime we spend money we can put the receipt in the jar and it is safe until I have time to deal with it. Nothing gets thrown away or misplaced now.

~Great Wolf Lodge Weekend~

Good Monday Sassy Savers!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We spent Thurs-Sat. at The Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine. It was a BLAST! If you are looking to take a vacation, but can't go far...this is the place for you! Plus, there are ways to save money while there (believe it or not).


There are refrigerators & microwaves in all of the rooms. We took cereal & milk for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch. We also took snacks, drinks, etc. We could have eaten every meal in our suite and maximized our savings. We opted to eat out for dinner each night. They also have restaurants & pizza places inside the resort. You could park your car and never leave until checkout!

We went with a large group from our church for "Family Camp". It was truly a great experience! It was fun to be on "vacation" with our friends too :) My little girl kept saying we are going "camping"! I said "Sissy, this is Mommy's version of camping...RESORTING!" he he

~Best Marriage Advice Regarding Finances~

Be honest with your spouse regarding your finances!

Hands down, this is a huge problem with marriages. Save yourself a lot of heartache & sadness by getting on the same financial page as your spouse. Sit down and discuss your budget. Purposely spend the money as a team, not as individuals. Make sure your spouse knows about your purchases in advance.
Be sure to not commit "financial infidelity". Safe guard your marriage by getting your finances in order. Finances don't have to be so stressful (no matter how little money you make). Yes, there will be compromises. There may even be disagreements. Taking time to talk through it, pray about it and work together to find a solution is key to success.
Have a plan and know exactly what money is coming and going. Set your goals TOGETHER and try to not lose focus on the prize. I've found that it is good to have both short term and long term goals. Having a plan and being a team is an awesome feeling!

~All About Store Brands~

Read an article this morning and thought it was interesting enough to pass along. I learned something about store (generic) brands. Very interesting! I don't often buy store brand products due to couponing. If the store brand is cheaper after a sale & coupon, then I buy it. Couponing only saves you money if it is truly a better deal! There are a few items that always seem to be a better deal to buy the store brand like hot dog & burger buns for example.

There is a huge misconception that if you only buy store brands you will be saving the most money. NOT TRUE. If you purchase products at the rock bottom price & use coupons, you will truly be saving the most money.

~Make Your Own Napkins-CHEAP!~

We are back from OKC! We had a great trip and a nice visit with family & friends. I even went to a local grocery story and picked up some deals! Thought it would be fun to answer a reader question today.

Reader Question:

I never see napkins in your photos. Do you not use them or do you have any special money saving napkin tips?

Answer:

Previously, I bought napkins. However, I was never happy with the quality and thought they were over-priced. My solution = make my own! It does take a few minutes, however 1 small (yet very absorbent) paper towel is so much better than a flimsy napkin. I've been doing this for months now and haven't looked back.


Also, anytime we eat at a restaurant and there are napkins leftover I always bring them home. If not, they would go in the trash can and that is just a huge waste!


Did I mention that it is saving me money too?! I never pay more than .50 per roll of paper towels. If it is a regular roll, I cut each towel into 4 squares. I try to only buy the select-a-size rolls and then I only have to cut once. It makes A LOT of napkins and for super cheap!

Hope this inspires you to at least try my method. Seriously, I will not purchase napkins again (unless they are fancy napkins for an event). Let me know what you think!
